It's so refreshing to hear new sound such as that of Two Stars Burning Sun. They literally are one of those bands you can't make ANY comparison to. I haven't heard such a wel l - orchestrated band since Converge. Not to compare the literal sound of the Kalamazoo, MI band to Converge, but all parts of the band just come together so well. Ranging is an exceptional word to describe each and every aspect of TSBS's sound. Guitars float along on nice grooves, accompanied by drums that don't follow the music so much as a typical song, but in a very good way - the contrast brings out each sound of the song. Dave and Tim both harmonize softly through these songs, aiming at "emotional catharsis" as they put it. Although Two Stars's lyrics are all emotion and sentiment, not all their songs sound as so. "Apology Letter" ripps throughout right from the start. High end, very unpolished screams from bassist and guitarist, pummeling drums, and energizing guitars command physical reaction. Never has a three-piece sounded so good, and never could one tell that there are in fact only three members to the band. This band has limitless potential, be sure to check them out and don't be surprised when they explode into the national scene...

Learning To Sleep Past These Cloud Covered Days is angst wrapped overwhelmingly in depression. What that depression is birthed from, one can only guess, but Two Stars Burning Sun feels like the distinct product of an early-20s philosophical mind, one that yearns for more than this spiritually repressive generational age can, or will, provide. It feels with a wounded heart that recognizes the inhumane injustices that people in this day and age bestow upon one another, seemingly without conscious.

It yearns for more, but in that very odd phenomenon, the emotional wallop that is Two Stars Burning Sun is fueled by that depression, rather than deadened by it. Perhaps the desire To Sleep Past These Cloud Covered Days exists but donıt believe for a second that any in this trio is bound to pull the covers up over their head when the chips are down.

It doesnıt take a genius to figure these gents as wounded but the fury that drives their malevolent hardcore is from a heart that refuses to stop fighting. Two Stars Burning Sun isnıt based on any pathetic self-pity but on a poetıs grit, where the part-whined, part-beautifully harmonized vocals yearn for a sympathetic heart to relate to while the brutally banging hardcore is to the point of explosion, to the point of absolute tolerance of hurt where humans become unpredictable and volatile.

The lyrics are poetic and as such not entirely understandable but thereıs little way of misinterpreting the hurt, the jilted anger, the frustration that almost every deep thinking college-aged philosopher inevitably runs into at that unfulfilling point-in-life where creativity comes through the sharpest, the most potent. Itıs all so adequately conveyed here, quite honestly channeled from the confusion that ensues before the cynicism of complete adulthood takes hold.

Learning to sleep past those cloud covered days would be the easy way out. Yet, Two Stars Burning Sun is based more on stubbornly seeking out the hopes of sunnier days. Through the hurt and self-sacrifice that has led to such an incendiary and affecting album, lifeıs finer moments do sometimes rest on the other side of this hurt so, hopefully, the wounds re-opened and flowing here arenıt bleeding needlessly.
