Levi, from SPIT FOR ATHENA's alter-ego solo project.
Clear Days Always Official Website - MySpace/cleardaysalways - Pure Volume

Clear Days Always is the music of Levi Bailey, a big fat nobody from Grand Rapids, Mich. His other band, Spit For Athena, is known for its short, brutal pop songs as played by a couple of hardcore kids and a former dance-instructor. Clear Days Always is Baileyıs obscene, ego-driven solo project. The music on his Friction Records release, "Ten Fingers: Five Yours, Five Mine and Habits Like Self Love," was recorded in bedrooms and barns across Michigan. On this record, he trimmed down countless hours of four-track cluster-fucks to something just short of 80 minutes of his most accessible material. Most of this record is just Levi and his guitar, plus a few surprises. Those willing to wade through it all will discover some of the prettiest, most profane, hilarious and real music made today. Underneath the songs about suicide, murder, incest and general insensitivity and apathy, there are desperate cries for help and the undivided attention of Baileyıs audience, He also begs for approval and honestly seems to want to make something beautiful in a world he has decided is quickly coming to an end.

TEN FINGERS: FIVE YOURS, FIVE MINE AND HABITS LIKE SELF-LOVE
On hardcore outfit Spit for Athena's Web site there's a quote by Andy Warhol that reads, "Art is what you can get away with..." Their front man, Levi Bailey, is attempting to get away with a lot with this, a two albums-on-one-disc package his press release refers to as an ³obscene, ego-driven solo project.²  The first half, recorded specifically for the release is a cohesive, mostly acoustic affair. The music is profane and depraved, absolutely, but also occasionally humorous, catchy, and most importantly, honest and affecting . The lyrics make an impact and are food for thought, even when rooted in sarcastic apathy. ³It's a joke/ It's all smoke/ and mirrors anyway/ So why not huff your brain cells away,² he sings with disdain. The latter part of the disc is comprised of bits and pieces of countless hours of home and live recordings, most of which equates to a trial in patience that most won't be willing to go through, and justifiably. The filler may deter, but those who do seek this album out will hear amongst chaos some of the most chillingly beautiful and haunting music of the year. -Luke Hackney - Creem Magazine August 2005

This album is more like a journal than anything else. It's a guilty dangerous pleasure to listen to. The themes visited in the beginning are almost like teenage desires for love and acceptance and an attempt at understanding the world. But instead of actually keeping a journal the author tells their story to their guitar and ultimately anyone that wants to listen.  And what role is the listener now responsible for? This album is 46 tracks long however. So it is also an evolution of the journal aspect.  We can listen to the author long for love, find love, lose love, meet friends,  whom sometimes contribute to parts of the album, in themes of the songs or contributing instramental or vocal parts to their songs. Also the songs get more experimental, originally starting with simple guitar bass drum songs,  or just solo acoustic songs into sampler and sythesizer songs. But always keeping the basic song writing aspect first. Does this album offer more than entertainment?  Watching the evolution of an artist through 46 songs, can we learn anything?  Are we transformed at all?  I think it's really the artist who's trying to transform himself and we're just lucky enough to witness the chrysalis.   -chad
